Kathmandu: Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) President Chatur Bahadur Chand has said that Nepali cricket has reached a stage where it should only move forward and not look back.
Speaking at the jersey and trophy launch programme held on Monday, President Chand said Nepali cricket has already proved its capability at the international level. Recalling Nepal’s journey since the 2014 T20 World Cup held in Bangladesh, he said the team earned global recognition through its strong performances at the time.
Chand noted that while 16 teams participated in the World Cup in 2014, the number has now increased to 20, reflecting the growing competitiveness of the tournament. He said Nepal’s performance in the ICC T20 World Cup held in the Caribbean and the United States in 2024 elevated Nepali cricket to new heights.
Stating that wins and losses are a normal part of the game, Chand said Nepal’s competitive performances against strong teams such as Bangladesh and South Africa have helped establish the country’s presence in world cricket. “Those performances have strengthened the belief that Nepali cricket can rise even higher,” he said.
The CAN president stressed the need for collective support from the general public, political parties and the government to further institutionalize the progress made by Nepali cricket. “The team’s performance has met the expectations of the Nepali people. Now, everyone’s support is essential to take it forward in a sustainable manner,” he added.
Also speaking at the programme, Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta extended best wishes to the Nepali national team participating in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup.
